How to Mount Your Magnetic Knife Rack (No Matter Your Wall Type)
So you’ve got your hands on one of our new, made-in-New Zealand magnetic knife holders. Love that for you! Now it’s time to get it up on the wall.
Whether you’re renting, or you're ready to drill into tile like the DIY hero you might be, we’ve got you.
There are two easy ways to mount your Artefact Knife Rack, and we’re breaking them down step by step. Onward!
Option 1: The Renter-Friendly Method
This method is perfect for tiled surfaces and other non-painted finishes. If your walls are painted plaster, skip to the drill method… trust us.
What you’ll need:
- Artefact Knife Rack (hopefully included)
- 2x mounting tape segments (included)
- Alcohol wipes (included)
- Steady hands, and 60 seconds of confidence
Instructions:
Place your Knife Rack face down so the brass keyhole brackets are facing up. Give the back a wipe with 1x alcohol wipe.
Let it dry completely, then stick the mounting tape to the ends of the Knife Rack: 1cm in from each brass bracket (red side faces the wall).
Wipe down your chosen wall spot with the second alcohol wipe.
⚠️ Not suitable for painted walls… unless you enjoy peeling your rental bond away later.
Peel off the red strips from the mounting tape and press the Knife Rack firmly onto the wall. Make sure it’s level!
Use your body weight to press the rack against the wall for one solid minute.
Leave the rack on the wall without knives for 24 hours to let the adhesive cure.
If you need to remove the rack in future, place a towel beneath the Knife Rack and run some nylon or tooth floss between the wall and the knife rack. Using a slow sawing motion, separate the rack from the wall and gently remove.
If you're wanting to mount your Knife Rack again, you'll want to use a strong tape. We like using this mounting tape from Bunnings. It can be found here.
Option 2: The Drill Method
Ready to commit? This method uses our built-in brass keyhole brackets and is ideal for:
-Tiled walls
- Plasterboard
- MDF
- Any surface where a solid, flush finish matters
What you’ll need:
- Magnetic Knife Rack
- Drill + appropriate bit for your wall
- 2x screws (included)
- 2x wall anchors (if needed)
- Pencil + ruler
Instructions:
Decide where you want your Knife Rack. Mark your 2x drill points with a pencil and ruler.
Drill into the wall using a drill bit that suits your wall material.
Screw in the 2x screws but not all the way in. If you’re working with plasterboard or tile, use anchors.
Leave a 3mm gap between the wall and screw head. This is what your rack will hang from.
Line up the wide part of the keyholes over the screw heads, then slide the rack down so it locks into place.
Give it a light wiggle. If it’s snug, you’re done!
